Credible Threat

March 22nd, 2006 at 04:15 am

I had seen a show, maybe Primetime live, where the theme was Game Theory, and they had a piece on Credible Threat. The idea is that fear of something real-a credible threat-is an excellent motivator. They took pictures of people in tiny bathing suits, and said, “If you don’t lose 15 pounds in two months, will put this picture on TV.” And it worked. Four out of the five did it, and the fifth came very close. So I mentioned it to a friend, and her thought is that we should agree to lose 20 pounds by Croatia, or wear a bikini for a day on the beach in Croatia and have pictures taken. So that gives me more than five months to lose 20 pounds. I weighed in a 196-not good, for me-I had been 170-ish last year. I’m 5’3-1/2”. So, 176 is very reasonable (I’d be happy with 150), and 4 pounds a month is doable.

Boy are you brave to save what you weigh. My best friend for about 30 years won't even tell me how much she weighs!! Good luck on losing weight. I am on the low carb diet, but have been stuck for a year.

I wonder if the "credible threat" could also be used to motivate people financially...

Can you lose the weight? Yes, absolutely. Hang in there and keep your spirits up.

I am sure your weight loss plan includes exercise and a wide range of colorful but low cal foods.
